Start
with good moving boxes. Use only strong, corrugated
cartons with covers. We can supply you with
specially made cartons. Remember that if you get
boxes from a food store, they may contain insects: be sure
to inspect the boxes before you use them. |
 |
In
addition to good moving boxes, you should have foam
peanuts, plastic bags, labels, tissue paper for delicate
packing jobs, gummed tape or strong twine, markers and
labels, a notebook and pen for carton identification log
and scissors and/or a sharp knife. |
 |
Pack
one room at a time. This will help you when it comes
time to unpack. Mark all boxes, designating the room
and the box number. Use your carton identification
log to record the number of boxes packed per room.
Leave space on the log for special comments. |
 |
For
packing dishware, line the bottom of the carton with
crumpled packing paper. Center one plate on packing
paper on a work table. Pull the paper over the plate
until the plate is covered. Stack a second plate,
third plate, etc. When you have a bundle of plates,
wrap the bundle in addition to wrapping the individual
plates. |
 |
Pack
electronic equipment in their original cartons whenever
possible. Otherwise use strong, corrugated cartons
and place protective padding on the bottom of the
carton. Wrap a protective pad around the item and
place it in the carton. |
 |
Flammable
liquids and aerosol cans must not be packed. Changes
in temperature and pressure can cause them to leak or even
explode. Gas tanks and propane tanks should be
drained before an item is packed. That is also true
of tanks on cars or motorcycles being shipped on the
moving van. |
